There is, hiding within you, someone who could operate at a higher level of efficiency and effectiveness in all major human arenas. Physical. Mental. Emotional. Creative. Spiritual.
Years back I gave my image of this aspect, this "best possible life" Steve, "The Golden Man." I would imagine what I would be if I was a dynamic black belt, a best-selling writer, and an ecstatic husband and father. WHO IS THAT GUY?
And visualize him in front of me. See the way he "runs energy" through his chakras, through the Three Centers. Belly Brain. Heart Center. Head Center.
I would visualize myself sitting or standing in front of a mirror, and the reflection is The Golden Man. When running, he was running in front of me. When I was tired and needed to boost my energy, I would see him standing in front of me and STEP INTO HIM.
And try to breathe, walk, smile, speak, stand and FEEL the way he feels, breathes, walks, smiles, speaks, and stands.
And the more vividly I created him in my mind, and the more dynamically I stepped into him, the more effective it was. This was BEFORE I created the Morning Ritual. Now, I see and feel the Golden Man performing Tai Chi, and I step into that imagining and flow with him. Let him guide me.
And as long as I focus on what I can do to further my intentions, on the most essential aspects of being that lead to excellence, this works fantastically well. If I look into how the Golden Man navigates the M.A.G.I.C. formula, the points he has in each:
How clearly does he see the Map of future action?
How dynamic is he in Action every day? How much ENERGY does he have? How efficiently and effectively does he use it?
How much GRATITUDE does he feel for the blessings in life? The people? The opportunities, simply another day of life?
How clearly does he see the END POINT of his goals and purpose? Is that image in black and white? Color? 3-D and Dolby?
How CONFIDENT is he? How does he stand, walk, smile, speak that radiates the CHARISMA of blazing confidence?
The "gap" between myself and this idealized self is my daily journey. And being that person, that golden man, is its own reward, REGARDLESS of what the rest of the world says. And the instant I put 100% of my effort on being my best person, caring about the integrity of my actions and words rather than how much others approve of me…the instant I do that, the rate of external approval SKYROCKETS. The real "me" shows up. I don't see myself, I feel the moment, and know by that feeling how alive I am. And that is all I can be…the closest to 100% I am capable of. And that is where the rewards, where EVERYTHING I want in life, exists. That is the place from which I can uplift my family, inspire my son, support my wife's dreams, make Steve Muhammad and Larry Niven proud of me, be worthy of my ancestors and give my descendants a higher platform to stand upon.
All we can be is the best we can be, and the Morning Ritual is my route to checking, every single day, my own rate of aliveness.
